Purchase the Goodbye Alley Zine here
Goodnight to the Alley and the end of an era…
The Alley AKA Trailside Village AKA The Center St. Quonset Huts has been a hub for the DIY scene, artists, musicians, and local businesses in Fayetteville, Arkansas since 1981. This zine aims to capture a bit of history of the buildings along with memories, photos, poems, stories, interviews, artwork, maps, documents, even a recipe!
This was a really life-changing book to put together. It felt like a way to give back to a place that had been a really transformative space for me. It also helped me remember how much I love making books. I’m very grateful to Eryn Brothers for asking me if I’d like to make a zine for the Alley.
There were 2 major editions of this, the first was produced in time for the Goodbye Alley party on April 6, 2024 and sold out of the 110 or so copies that were printed. At the party I encouraged more submissions and wove those into the 2nd edition (open edition). If you are wondering which copy you have, the 1st edition had a green-tinted spine (like the photo) and the 2nd edition has a purple-tinted spine. The 2nd edition also has 18 more pages (220 pages total if you count covers). The 1st edition has slightly thicker glossier paper. Due to the increase in page count for the 2nd edition, I needed to switch to a thinner paper so that the stapler could still make it through all of the sheets. Plus, I needed to find a less expensive paper to offset the increase in printing costs for the additional sheets.
I probably won’t make a 3rd edition, but if you have any stories of the Alley or photos, you are welcome to contact me just in case.
